Google has rolled out AI Overviews and AI Mode in India, including support for Hindi and other Indian languages. For many informational searches, people now read an AI-generated summary before — or instead of — clicking a link. That changes how websites earn visibility.
What this means for traffic
Pure informational queries ("what is a composition scheme") may send fewer clicks, because the answer appears directly. Commercial and local queries ("best CA firm in Jaipur", "Shopify developer Bengaluru") still drive clicks, and being cited in the AI summary adds credibility.
What gets cited
AI Overviews draw on pages Google already trusts and ranks for the topic. Within those pages, passages that answer a question clearly and directly are more likely to be used.
How to adapt your content
- Answer first: under each question heading, give a short direct answer, then detail.
- Use question-style headings that match how people actually search.
- Add summaries and tables: key facts in a clear, structured format.
- Show expertise: author details, credentials and real examples.
- Keep facts consistent across your website and profiles.
- Use structured data: Organization, Service, FAQ and Article schema.
Track the right numbers
Search Console shows impressions and clicks, but not AI Overview citations specifically. Keep a list of priority searches and check monthly whether an AI Overview appears and whether your site is cited.
Vernacular opportunity
As more people search in Hindi and regional languages, well-written content in those languages faces less competition. If your customers search in Hindi, consider creating key pages in Hindi too.
FAQs
Can we opt out of AI Overviews?
Controls exist for how content appears in search snippets, but restricting them can also reduce your visibility. Most businesses are better off optimising.
Does AIO replace SEO?
No. Strong SEO remains the foundation for being cited.
Are AI Overviews shown for every search?
No. They appear for some queries, particularly informational ones.
